The artist Dana Gaines graduated from Williams College where he majored in Fine Arts with a secondary concentration in History.  An accomplished oarsman and paddler, Dana often takes reference photographs from an ocean kayak to obtain a unique “mariner’s eye view” of his subjects.  He uses pen and ink along with watercolors to achieve the exquisite detail in his realistic renderings.  Informational text is often incorporated in his work to provide the viewer with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the historical significance of his renderings of classic ships, maps, and premier lighthouses.
